Personal Vision Essay
The future for me is unpredictable, but that’s the way I prefer it. It’s true that it can be pretty stressful not knowing what kind of job I want to have or even what I want to study in school, but I like to be able to have the flexibility. I would rather have the option to change the course of my life without being completely cemented in one goal or career; I’m the type of person who strays away from anything with strict structure. I like to be free to just do what I feel like doing, so I want to have a flexible lifestyle. I know that it would be most enjoyable that way, and to me, having fun and being happy is most important. As long as my lifestyle has a lot of variety, I will be pretty happy.
As I said, I don’t really know what kind of job I want to have. I have a lot of different interests and I’d love to pursue all of them if possible. Although I don’t know what kind of job I do want, I think I know what I don’t want. I don’t want my job to be boring. Consistency can be good in many ways, but it gets boring quickly if it’s the same thing every day. I like to be around people, so I don’t want to be by myself all the time. However, I do still think I find a lot of value in getting work done on my own, so I was thinking of starting my own small art-related business on the side (and I kind of already have). I enjoy art a lot, and it’s definitely the thing I spend most of my free time doing, but I wouldn’t want it as a full-time job because I like to be able to do as I please with my own art without others telling me what to do with it or what to make. I know it isn’t a very stable career path, which is why I would keep it as a side project. That’s really the only thing I’m certain of right now.
Some of the basic goals that I have for myself, though, are graduating college, getting a job that I enjoy, and someday buying my own house. I don’t really have any particular timeline for when these would happen, aside from graduating which hopefully will be within four years. As for smaller goals, I have quite a few. I want to travel to lots of different countries with rich history and cultures so that I can learn more about them. When I was 14, I went to London. I'd like to visit again and see more of Europe. In college, I want to learn Japanese and study abroad in Japan. When I eventually have my own place, I want to have lots of pets because I've always really loved animals.
